Celebrating Black Talent in Chemistry

Posted in News Story

Davina Adderley, a graduate research fellow for the ISMSM in Professor Steven Metallo’s lab, was part of an author group that just published an editorial celebrating Black chemistry students in honor of the Juneteenth holiday. The editorial, published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society, highlights Black scientists, including Adderley, in chemistry and the broader STEM field. Additionally, the authors explore the underrepresentation of Black people in science and highlight some recent initiatives to attempt to remediate this issue by recruiting and retaining talent across all levels of STEM education. The editorial concludes with important advice for how the scientific community can continue to support Black students to promote a more inclusive future.
