ISMSM Faculty Member, Professor Jeffrey Toretsky, and his group have recently put forward a new publication. “Comprehensive profiling of mRNA splicing indicates that GC content signals altered cassette exon inclusion in Ewing sarcoma” appears in the 4th volume of NAR Cancer. Ewing sarcoma (EwS) is the second most frequent form of pediatric bone cancer, and commonly expresses the fusion oncoprotein EWS-FLI1. Prior research has suggested that EWS-FLI1 disrupts the synthesis of mRNA. Dr. Toretsky’s group describes the underlying characteristics of mRNA that are abnormally spliced in EwS tumor samples and catalogue mRNA splicing events in other pediatric tumor types.
