Georgetown-Indian Institute of Science Initiative in Soft Matter Workshop

Posted in News Story

A two-day workshop on a diverse range of soft matter subjects was held on 25-26 August 2017 under the sponsorship of Georgetown’s India Initiative and the I(SM)2.  It was attended by six professors from the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru, India, three scientists from NIH and NIST, and ca. 30 professors, postdocs, and graduate students from I(SM)2.  Each of the professors presented aspects of their research and the graduate students and postdocs contributed 12 posters.  The discussions were animated and reflected the interest of all in learning about what the different communities (both scientific and geographic) are doing.  Two guest professors, Paulina Pavez (from Universidad Catolica in Santiago, Chile) and Edvaldo Sabadini (from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas in Campinas, Brazil), as well as Dr. Irfan Nooruddin (from GU’s India Initiative) and Dr. Pratik Mathur (from the Embassy of India), also participated during parts of the workshop.  After a lively discussion at the end of the workshop, the participants decided to explore avenues for student interchanges between the two institutions with aspirations for faculty interchanges in the future.
